Dami and I finally went to see Black Panther after 2 failed attempts and just like most people we enjoyed it except for the fact that we had to sit pretty close to the movie screen because the theatre was packed but I digress. This post is not another review of Black Panther. If that’s what you were looking for, sorry to disappoint, if not then yay! Let’s continue…

Like I already said, I liked it. The movie was good enough for the fiction genre however, my take away was not really what I thought it’d be, especially since I had been following the media hype since it premiered. Honestly, I wasn’t even looking for a big take away, I was just happy to be out with my dear husband for date night (rare occurrence since we became parents). After the movie though I found myself in really deep thought and I will try to express those thoughts here.

I found myself really thinking about vibranium a lot! Weird right??? I know!! However, I wasn’t thinking about it as the material portrayed in the movie but as a concept. I kept asking myself “Nelly, what’s your vibranium?” So, allow me to explain what vibranium means as a concept, it is the possession of a unique/special ability or skill that sets one apart in the world.

I lingered on this thought for a while probably due to thoughts and conversations I’ve had over the past year regarding people’s attitude to work, equal opportunity versus equal outcome etc. I’ve seen many people particularly millennials demand more from the government especially minority groups and while I don’t want to downplay any of the issues or go in-depth into them right now for the sake of brevity, this post is for those of us who are unwilling to wait to be given opportunities by either the government or any other entity for that matter. Its for those of us who are willing to put on our boots, heels, or flats, go out there and do what needs to be done just like those who came before us. It is for those of us who understand that talk is cheap and know that we can’t afford to wait for people to act on our behalf especially in a free society with the greatest of opportunities.

This one is for those of us who are willing to put on our boots, heels, or flats, go out there and do what needs to be done just like those who came before us.

Like me you probably don’t have vibranium or some rare metal in your backyard (if you do please hook me up #humble :) but you do have something inside of you that if nurtured well could help you carve a niche and perhaps even leave your name on the sands of time.

In my short existence I have met different successful people from different works of life, so I know that we don’t all have to be on the same path. We don’t all have to be doctors, engineers or lawyers to be successful. Technology and information has brought us to a place where we are able to carve new paths and still arrive at the same or similar destinations, usually at different times. All you have to do is find a need and meet that need excellently.

Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men. Proverbs 22:29 (ESV)

If you want to be a farmer, be THE FARMER! If you want to be a baker, interior decorator, doctor, DJ, dance therapist or whatever new path millennials are discovering these days then BE! Be “The Baker”, “The DJ”, “The Dance Therapist”, “The doctor”, and if you’re like me “The Web Designer”. Find your vibranium, mine it, refine it and then share it with the world. The world is waiting! What’s your vibranium?
